About Miss Laura
|
Laura Koch is a professional, award-winning musician who engages in many musical endeavours, including leading the Langley-based band, The Kwerks. Her early influences - Raffi, Simon and Garfunkel, her own parents' hippie-style duet musings, and later Counting Crows, Elton John, Taylor Swift, and Coldplay.
She started exploring music as a young child on the old piano that sat in the basement of her family home, sang in children's choirs, and learned to harmonize while singing and cleaning the kitchen with her sisters after dinner. She always wielded a hearty disdain for performance, opting to keep her best musical moments behind closed doors, until 2015 when she started The Kwerks, through which she quickly gained national exposure in the CBC Searchlight Contest (top 25 list in 2017 and top 10 list in 2018), radio play, and won a Frazey Award for "Excellence in Performance by a Female Artist." (2017) Through skillful songwriting, rhythmic guitar playing, catchy melodies, and the lively banter with her husband during their shows, Laura has entertained thousands, and had audiences giggling and jumping out of seats to dance and sing along. In 2017, she married her passions for music and working with children in creating the Snap-Tunes program! Through her work as the Artist in Residence at Langley Fine Arts School in 2017, she developed an experience that teachers, students and parents can't get enough of! |
